MMUST and Soka University Collaborate to Revolutionize Educational Paradigms

On 1st November 2024, MMUST’s School of Education (SEDU) hosted visitors from Soka University in Japan for a transformative workshop on ‘Value-Creating Education,’ designed to rethink traditional educational paradigms. The workshop focused on equipping educators, administrators, and students with tools and methodologies that go beyond conventional learning. The event, organized by the Department of Education Foundations, was graced by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovation) Prof. Charles Mutai. As a way of enhancing learning, MMUST received a donation of educational books from Soka University.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Mutai underscored the significance of the workshop saying that it is highly relevant because it addresses the need for a more dynamic, responsive, and purpose-driven educational experience. “As a University, our core principle is to foster an education that prepares students to contribute meaningfully to the world. We envision a future where our partnership with Soka University will not only enhance academic excellence but also foster innovation and global engagement,” said Prof. Mutai.

Commenting on Japan’s technological advancement, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Prof. Hussein Golicha, emphasized that partnering with Soka University will enhance MMUST’s endeavors in Science, Technology, and Innovation.

“Such workshops provide training in modern pedagogical strategies that focus on facilitating learning experiences rather than just delivering content. Certainly, this will equip our lecturers with the skills they need to support teacher-students in becoming value creators,” stated Prof. Golicha.

Similarly, the Dean of SEDU, Prof. Moses Poipoi noted that the workshop provided the participants with new strategies for engaging students and creating more dynamic, inclusive, and interactive learning environments. He highlighted that teachers who understand how to integrate value-creation principles into their curriculum inspire students to think creatively and engage more deeply in learning.

“This workshop’s alignment with 21st-century skills ensures that education is relevant to the needs of the digital age, where technological literacy and adaptability are fundamental to success. With this knowledge, I am confident that we will help make education more engaging and effective as we cultivate skills and values in our learners,” noted Prof. Poipoi.
