Background Information

Global Connections, Academic Excellence, Cultural Exchange

The Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL) was established on 28th June 2010 at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. The directorate operates on the belief that no institution can harness enough of the needed information, experiences and resources on its own and in one place. The expansion of information and knowledge occasioned by globalization through the communication and information revolution has necessitated the sharing of intellectual, physical resources and research activities in order to maximize learning.

The main function of DIAL is to promote and nurture internationalization, collaboration and partnership with other institutions of higher learning, organizations and communities worldwide as well as offering a platform for exploring linkages in order to maximize the gains from educational experiences available worldwide.

The Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL) at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is committed to enhancing the quality of higher education through internationalization, collaborations, and linkages with institutions, organizations, and communities around the world. Our vision is to be a leading facilitator in this endeavor, ensuring that our academic community is well-prepared to meet the demands of a globalized world.

DIAL's mission is to promote the efficient and effective exchange of information, experiences, resources, academic research, and global citizenship. By fostering a culture of international collaboration, we aim to enrich the educational experiences of our students and staff, broaden their perspectives, and enhance their ability to contribute to global discourse and development.

Our goal is to establish and nurture partnerships with institutions of higher learning, organizations, and communities, thereby promoting internationalization and academic excellence. We coordinate affairs related to international student and staff exchanges, and academic linkages, ensuring that these opportunities are accessible and beneficial to our university community. Through these efforts, we strive to create a vibrant, interconnected academic environment at MMUST.

DIAL's scope of responsibilities includes several key functions: internationalization and international relations, student and staff exchange programs, linkages and collaborations, resource mobilization, community engagement and outreach programs, and facilitating student attachments and placements. These functions are designed to support our mission and vision, ensuring that our initiatives are aligned with the strategic goals of MMUST.

Additionally, DIAL plays an active role in the Postgraduate, Research, Linkages, and Innovation Committee of the Senate. This committee is tasked with developing, reviewing, approving, and implementing policies and procedures on behalf of the Senate. The committee's membership includes key university leaders, such as the DVC (PRI) as Chair, Dean of Postgraduate Studies, and Directors of various relevant departments, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach to advancing MMUST's academic and research excellence.
