Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has continued its discussions with Shikusa Borstal Institution (SBI) aimed at formalizing their Collaborative Agreement. On December 5th, 2024, a team from SBI, led by Senior Superintendent of Prisons (SSP) Mr. George Odera, HSC, visited MMUST to engage in a productive meeting with the Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL). The team was received by Dr. Umulkher Ali, Director of DIAL. The primary agenda of the meeting was to review and enhance the draft collaboration agreement, which was initially proposed in 2022.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), on 3rd December 2024 marked the International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) with a vibrant celebration focused on empowering and amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities. Themed ‘Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,’ the event called for greater recognition of the leadership potential and contributions of people with disabilities toward building an inclusive society. The commemoration brought together staff and students, highlighting the challenges faced by persons with disabilities while showcasing the University’s ongoing efforts to create an accessible and equitable learning environment.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, and Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences (THB)-Germany have discussed incorporating biodigesters into smart agriculture systems in an effort to provide affordable solutions for farmers. From 12th to 14th November 2024, the University hosted THB’s Prof. Dietmar Wikarski and his Master’s students, for a workshop on developing a module that will enhance MMUST’s existing biodigester systems. The module is aimed at integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) into collecting real-time data on critical parameters such as weather, pH levels, and temperatures. The teams, led by Prof. Alice Ndiema, paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor-Prof. Solomon Shibairo, before proceeding to the workshop that drew participants from the School of Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences and Technology(SAVET), School of Computing and Informatics (SCI), as well as School of Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE).

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has today, 15th November, 2024, officially celebrated unity in diversity as it joined the rest of the globe to mark International Students’ Day. This day was a culmination of week-long activities, which included tree planting, as well as volleyball and football tournaments sponsored by Walter Okelo Mentorship Program (WOMP). The event was graced by Chief Officer Governance and Administration-Siaya County, Hon. Walter Okelo, who is also the Patron of WOMP. It was organized by the Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL), led by Dr. Umulkher Ali, in partnership with the University International Students’ Guild (ISG) and MMUSO leaders.

On 11th to 13th November, 2024, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) hosted an eye-opening three-day interdisciplinary workshop titled ‘How to Research Traces’. The workshop brought together MMUST’s fifteen (15) postgraduate students from diverse fields to explore innovative and creative research methods; photography, movement, and site-writing. The workshop blended interactive discussions, insightful presentations, and practical off-campus fieldwork, encouraging participants to push the boundaries of traditional research approaches. The event was spearheaded by MMUST’s Director of International Relations and Academic Linkages, Dr. Umulkher Ali, and facilitated by Ms. Keren Kuenberg, an architectural researcher and PhD candidate at ISCTE Lisbon. The workshop was part of the project, ‘How to research traces? Exploring creative research methods in researching the afterlives of past interventions,’ funded by the European Research Council.
